Coach Houser's stepdaughters celebrating his wife's birthday in 2004.  Caitlyn, Sara & Lauren

When Lauren's club team qualified for the J.O. National Tournament  Coach Houser and his wife made it their summer vacation.  Here they are standing beside the "not so" Great Salt Lake in July of 2005.

Ok, so Coach Houser's 2007 Roanoke Juniors 15's team was a little different.  But "normal" is boring, right?  Here we are after the first day in the 16's division of Shamrock.  GREAT JOB!!!

This is Coach Houser, as drawn by Allison Prothero, at the 2007 Jefferson Forest Camp!

He's really not that hairy!!

Really!

This is Coach Houser's 2006 15N team at the Atlanta Aquarium!!  The team qualified for the National Tournament by winning the Old Dominion Region Bid

Gosh, Jami Thompson wins the Hitter of the Week Award at the 2004 Bassett High Veteran Camp, then threatens him with it!
This was Coach Houser's 16's team in 2004. They went to Asheville and WON the 16's division, finishing undefeated.  In this picture, everyone seems to think "it's all Paige's fault!" Coach Houser's 15's Junior Team "Spiked Punch" won a 16's tournament in March 2005 at Hollins!  What a fantastic team!!
Coach Houser's stepdaughter Lauren played for Radford University in the fall of 2006 at an OH.   The team won more matches than in the three previous years combined.   In the fall of 2006, the Radford University team was a great group of girls and parents!  Here we are at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point NY.   Lauren is #5.

Coach Houser (right) with his 2003 15's team after winning the silver division at Shamrock!   Cool boxers!!  Sponge Bob was our mascot that year!

Coach Houser's 3 seniors bought him a birthday cake back in February 1999 at Bassett High school.

At the final day of the 2006 Red Lion Christian Camp in Delaware, each girl showed Coach Houser her spike approach!

While the other campers work on defense & blocking, Coach Houser talks with the setters at the Bassett Community Center Camp in July of 2004.

TEN REASONS WHY I COACH

Melissa Noto
Gilroy High School, CA

10. Being able to tell your friends, "Yep, I go to 'the gym' every day."

9. Playing with the team, or in between drills off to the side, and once in a while making a great play, proving to the kids that once-upon-a-time you were indeed a decent player.

8. Having the power to bring justice to the world by cutting/sitting the lazy, rude and/or "cancerous" players.

7. Choosing the drills, planning your own practices, analyzing line-ups, whipping the kids into shape... You know, torture.

6. Watching the players improve right before your eyes.

5. The cool parents...The ones that bring snacks, and always volunteer to drive to tournaments, and never want to "have a talk" about their kid.

4. Seeing an old player years later in the grocery store, and they still call you "Coach" and can remember playing for you.

3. Giving the kids motivation to stay on track with their grades, and also stay healthy.

2. The great ab workout you get from all the laughs, and the joy of servicing local youth.

And the #1 reason anyone would want to be a coach...

1. Meeting incredible people who care, invest, sacrifice and enjoy the sport enough to want to spread it to future generations. These are some of the most amazing people you'll ever work with.
