Camp Info:


Probable Format:
Monday - Wednesday:  9am to 4pm with a one hour lunch break.
Thursday: 9am to 1pm


There will be a tournament for the last few hours of the final day.

Probable Divisions:
The Minor League will be at the middle school.
The Major League will be at the high school!

Cost:
$tba for Gretna athletes
$tba for nonGretna athletes
The camp will probably be limited in how many nonGretna athletes are accepted! So apply early!

Around May 1, Coach Colbert may start accepting girls from other schools....if there's room!


Maximum Campers:
20 - 25 in the Minor League division.
15 - 20 in the Major League division.

What The Camp Entails:
We will start the camp in separate divisions working on the girls' skills to ensure all the athletes can serve, pass, hit and dig properly. Throughout the camp, setters will get a lot of time working with coaches who specialize in setting. On the 2nd day, competitions will begin which emphasize the skills of the game. On the 3rd day, teams will be created in each division to get ready for the Thursday tournament. For the final few hours on Thursday, athletes and parents wil love watching the tournament!!

Director:  Tom Houser

Coach Houser is the owner of STAR Volleyball Camps. He is the author of the "I Can't Wait" to coach books, and Drill Collection. He has coached 18 varsity teams, 10 JV teams, 26 club teams and directed 87 camps in 9 states in the past 7 years. You can see more about Coach Houser here

Assistant Coaches:


Kelsey Goodman
Kelsey is the assistant volleyball coach at Randolph College in Lynchburg, Va. She is a 2019 graduate of Roanoke College, where she played on the volleyball team all 4 years. Kelsey graduated from Midlothian High in Richmond in 2016, where she played 6 years. She also played 7 years of club volleyball. You can find out more about Kelsey here. Kelsey has worked nearly 40 STAR camps the past 4 summers. Her sister Amy is also playing at Eastern Mennonite University. The sisters were regular participants in the Expectations Camps at Sweet Briar! You can contact Kelsey at kgoodman@randolphcollege.edu.



Hannah Shields Contreras
Hannah has played 4 years as an OH at Averett University. Each year she has been named 1st team All-Confernece. In all four years, she's been one of the top three hitters in all of NCAA D3. She has been named USASouth Conference Player Of The Year as a soph, jr and senior! Hannah is a 2014 graduate of Dan River High School, near Danville, Va. She played 6 years of school vball and 5 years of club vball. She played on Coach Houser's team in 2012 that attended Jr Nationals in Columbus Ohio! Bre Lockhart
Bre is a senior at Randolph-Macon, and just completed her 4th season as a member of the volleyball team. She was a captain the past 2 seasons. She is a 2016 graduate of Hidden Valley High School. She played 5 years of school vball and 5 years of club vball. She was a primary hitter and server on the Hidden Valley team that won the AA Virginia State Championship in the fall of 2013. The Roanoke STAR Newspaper did an article on her in Oct 2015 here. Bre starting working STAR camps after her 9th grade, and has now been a part of 28 of them! Harper Scollo
Harper has completed four years on the Averett University volleyball team, where she was a captain her senior year. Her AU bio page is here! She is a 2016 graduate of Chatham High School where she played 5 years of school volleyball and 5 years of club volleyball. As a senior, she was first team all-conference libero and one of the team's captains. Later that year, she drove to Roanoke to play on NRV's top 18's team! Harper has been woring STAR camps since her senior year in high school. She is majoring in Art Education at Averett. You can contact Harper at HarperCScollo@gmail.com!

Elizabeth Giles
Elizabeth just finished her second year at Sewanee University in Tennessee where she has earned significant playing time! She is a 2018 graduate of North Cross School in Roanoke, Va. During both her junior and senior year, she was named 1st team All-Conference, 1st All-Tournament and her team advanced to the state final 4. As a senior, she was 1st team All-State. What a great week of volleyball camp for my Gretna girls! They put in a lot of hard work, learned so much, and had a ton of fun! Thank you to Tom Houser and staff for working with my girls this week & being so patient with them!

According to NCAA rules, graduates ARE eligible to participate in a summer high school camps.  This will not get them in any trouble and it will not jeopardize their college volleyball eligibility.

August 1 in Danville directed by probably Kara Matthews and Kelsey Goodman, the coaches at Randolph College,
and August 2 at North Cross School, probably directed by Blair Trail, head coach at Roanoke College.

The Gretna varsity finishes 1st. The JVs finish 2nd.
