STAR Volleyball Clinics & Camps at Bassett Community Center for 2005

The Veteran & Rookies Working Together!! Even though the vets & rookies were apart most of the camp, we forgot to take pics during most of the vet camp.

Jamie and Hannah will both still be in elem. school next year, but both are going to be GREAT ballplayers!	Megan and Allison prepare for a drill. But girls gave a great effort at the camp. The coaches are proud of them!

Haley & Wanda try to get from the back line to the net. Wanda: Your game is improved SO SO much in the past 2 years. You're awesome!	Faith (left) came to the camp from Martinsville. She played juniors for the Piedmont East this past spring and is a super ballplayer!

On the first day of rookie camp, the campers take a periodic break to write down all that they can remember about each skill. All STAR rookie campers get lots of handouts and sheets so that they won't forget what they've learn. On the left, Haley & Holly work together, on the right it's Jamie & Leanne.

At the end of the first day of the rookie camp, each team tried the "Circle Contact" drill where the coaches & campers attempt to pass the ball around their group. How many "cycles" can they perform before making an error? Marilee's team performed 3 cycles and were the winners!

Rookies: 9:30 to noon ($25) Vets: 12:30pm to 4:30 ($37.50) All campers got a free Tshirt when payment is made!! Pre-registration was required. If you have any questions about the camp, you can email Suzie Helbert	There was a GREAT coaching staff: Lori Underwood Lori is a 1999 graduate of Bassett High where she was an OH and DS. She played was a senior on the team that made it to the state AA Final Four. She's a 2002 graduate of UNC-Wilmington and is a middle school math teacher and volleyball coach. This coming fall she will be a head JV coach! Jessica Hairston (vet only) Jessica is 2001 graduate of Bassett High where she was a 4-year starter at setter. She started playing juniors as a 6th grader and continued throughout her high school career. She has been a setter & DS at Averett College for the past 4 years. She will graduate from Averett this summer!! Jessie has helped me with numerous STAR camps and she will help make this a GREAT camp!!!! Jessie's email address is: settin44@yahoo.com Holly Bucher & Marilee Mason Holly is a '05 graduate of North Cross School and Marilee is a rising senior. Holly has played volleyball at NC for 7 years and Marilee for 6 years. Holly has played 5 years of Roanoke Juniors, and Marilee has played three. Both are starters on the North Cross team that constantly makes the state playoffs. Holly was named first-team all state this past fall, and Marilee was named to the second-team! Leanne Mahoy (rookie assistant coach) A rising senior at Roanoke Catholicl Leanne has played 5 years of school ball!!

Leah Draper Bryant
'00 graduate of Bassett High where was a 4-year starter at OH and MB; she then went to Bridgewater College and played there. She played years of juniors, played in dozens of doubles tournaments, and has been given numerous awards.

Kendall Patterson (rookie camp)
Three year volleyball player in the Cave Spring program in Roanoke County. She was a star member of Coach Houser 15's Spiked Punch Junior team that finished 3rd in the state championships on May 1st. Sara White (rookie camp)
She is a rising senior at Roanoke Catholic where she has played since the 6th grade. She has been the starting setter for the past 2 years and has attended numerous camps & clinics.

If anyone is interested in some one-on-one training. Coach Houser offers player training in Roanoke. There are athletes who come from Pulaski, Martinsville, Hillsville, Lynchburg, etc. The website is here. It's a TON of fun!! Please pass the word!!
